First Flight to Kerala, To Bring Back Stranded Indians Abroad Under ‘Vande Bharat Mission’

A campaign to bring back the abandoned Indians due to the lockdown in the country due to Coronavirus has been started. The government has named it ‘Vande Bharat Mission.’

 Under the ‘Vande Bharat Mission,’ 363 Indians from Abu Dhabi and Dubai were brought back home today. Both select flights landed in Kerala on Thursday night.

The first plane of the Air India Express carrying Indian citizens reached Kochi in Kerala from Abu Dhabi on Thursday. The aircraft flew from Abu Dhabi to Kochi at 5:07 pm (local time). At the same time, the second flight left for Kozhikode from Dubai at 5:46 pm (local time).

 A spokesperson of Air India Express said that the first flight carrying four newborns and 177 passengers was at Kochi International Airport at 10.9 pm. Landed at the base, A Kerala government official said that the returned citizens would be kept in quarantine centers prepared by the administration in their respective districts.

On the other hand, Navy warship INS Jalashwa has reached Male to bring the stranded Indians in the Maldives. INS Jalashwa is expected to leave for Kochi with around 750 people by Friday evening. After this, the INS but will return to the country with about 250 people.

 Due to social distancing and medical facilities, the Navy will bring only 1000 people from Male in the first batch. By the way, about 3500 Indian people are stranded in the Maldives.

Let me tell you that on Tuesday, the Indian government had prepared a big plan to bring back Indians trapped in other countries due to the coronavirus epidemic. Under this, at least 64 flights will be operated till the coming week to bring back 14,800 people trapped abroad. 

Select flights will be sent to the US, Kuwait, Philippines, Bangladesh, UK, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Air India will operate most of these flights. Social distancing will also be strictly followed while bringing people back, and only 200 to 300 passengers will be allowed to sit in these select flights.
