According to the State Agriculture Department, locusts have been affected in more than 50 thousand hectares area in the state. Not only this, but many pictures of these locusts are also coming out in 16 other districts including Jaipur. The terror of locusts has become a cause of concern for the agriculture department after last year’s sentence. According to the Agriculture Department, the herds of locusts are moving fast towards the south and east direction of the state in search of food and to avoid the heat.

State Agriculture Commissioner said on this matter – Since it is not the harvest season, the crop is also very low due to this. This is the reason that herds of locusts are rapidly increasing in search of food in other areas. Tell that about the locust terror, the officials say that although the locust had a breeding center African countries. From there he used to take a long time to come to India but last year he made his breeding center on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan. In this regard, the Government of Pakistan did not make any effort to get control of these locusts. Because of this, such attacks of locusts have been seen continuously for the last year.

What are Locusts?

If we talk about desert locusts, then their effect is directly seen on the work related to farming and crops. They are known to destroy crops. In many parts of the country, we get to see grasshoppers or flocks of them at times, but desert locusts are slightly different from the locusts seen in these other parts. Or rather they are just a different species of locust. Desert locusts are known to cause far more damage to crops than common locusts. In many countries, grasshopper terror has also been named as grasshopper plague. It has been termed as plague in matters related to farming. When a large swarm of locusts spreads across the continents, it is named plague. According to AFO, plague of locusts is actually used for the most destructive locusts of their species. They are easily able to affect 20 percent of the earth’s surface. For this reason, taking desert locust lightly can prove harmful for food safety.

The effect of locusts on the economy

Desert locusts are generally confined to arid and semi-arid desert areas, but they can also travel to about 30–60 countries during an attack or breeding. During this time they become the main cause of concern for crops and food security because they can eat food equal to their weight every day. This directly means that 35 thousand people can be fed with food grown in 1 square kilometer, but these grasshoppers have the ability to eat crops equivalent to 35 thousand people. If these insects do not take timely action, they have a great impact on crops and vegetation. In such a situation, if crops and vegetation will be harmed, then it is obvious that along with inflation on the food items associated with crops in the country, a situation like hunger can also occur.
