News agency AFP quoted Pakistan Aviation Authority spokesman Abdul Sattar Khokhar as saying, “The plane has crashed in Karachi. We are trying to confirm how many people were in it. According to preliminary information, the aircraft had 99 passengers and 8 crew members.
According to local reports, an emergency has been declared in all the major hospitals in Karachi.
News agency PTI quoted Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority sources as saying that contact with the aircraft was cut off a minute before it landed.
Pakistan media reported that the Pakistan Army’s Rapid Response Force and the Pakistan Rangers are at the accident site to assist in relief and rescue efforts, due to the huge congestion and narrow lanes causing problems.
